BACKGROUND

Carl Beckles is an independent artist whose musical journey is deeply rooted in the vibrant sounds of 70s funk and reggae, 80s pop and soul, and 90s R&B and gospel. His debut album, 'Light In A Dark Place', released on 3rd November 2021, is a fusion of these genres, staying true to his roots and the gospel message at its core. By the age of 19, Carl had amassed over 600 vinyl records, becoming a music connoisseur, though surprisingly not a DJ – that talent was passed down to the next generation!

THE DEBUT

'Light In The Dark Place' was co-written and executive produced by Carl, with contributions from Rock River and mainly, the multi-platinum producer and artist, Ian Copeland Green, known for his work with Madonna, Brand New Heavies, Kenny Thomas, and Maxi Priest. Carl's journey with Ian began on the very day he last saw his late brother, Linton Beckles, formerly of the UK funk and soul band, Central Line. Inspired by their final conversation, Carl embarked on this musical project, overcoming doubt and disillusionment to follow his passion. Carl emphasises the importance of finding his own voice in music, stating, "I had to discover who I am as an artist, songwriter, and vocalist. This journey was about building confidence and staying true to myself."

Carl's excitement for his first project ignited a new flame, leading to the creation of his second music project, with the first single 'All 4 Love' set for 19th September 2025 release! If you liked the first project, no doubt will you love the second!

Grateful for the global reach of his music, Carl reflects on the extraordinary possibilities of connecting with people worldwide. "The ability to reach listeners in places I've never been is life-changing. I thank God for this opportunity and for living in this age. Despite my introverted nature, I'm excited to share my music with the world."

Carl's musical influences span a wide range, from Michael Jackson and Bob Marley to Earth, Wind & Fire, The Emotions, and many more. His love for music is evident in every note he creates.

Music Love & INFLUENCES

Carl's musical influences are as diverse as they are legendary. From the moment he received his first album, Michael Jackson's "Off The Wall," he was hooked. Bob Marley's "Kaya," Dennis Brown's "Wolf & Leopards," and the brilliance of Earth, Wind & Fire all left an indelible mark on him. He was captivated by the genre-blending magic of the Pointer Sisters, the soulful richness of The Emotions, Rufus & Chaka Khan, and the Isley Brothers. Brenda Russell's 1979 self-titled debut remains a favourite, and the Philadelphia sounds of The Jones Girls, Jean Carne, and The Stylistics continue to inspire him.

Carl's admiration extends to the powerful voices of Phyllis Hyman, Cheryl Lynn, Luther Vandross, Whitney Houston, Kenny Lattimore, and Lalah Hathaway. He marvels at the talents of Mariah Carey, Anita Baker, and Donell Jones, and grooves to the beats of Loose Ends, Janet Jackson, and Teedra Moses. The gospel sounds of the Clark Sisters, Commissioned, Thomas Whitfield & Company, Rev. Milton Brunson & The Thompson Community Choir, Hezekiah Walker & The Love Fellowship Choir, and Walter Hawkins & Family have also profoundly influenced his music. The essence of Toto and Fleetwood Mac, along with the fluid tones of Chris Brown, round out his eclectic musical palette.
